Preschool classroom programs for 3-5-year-old children are available through various agencies in the Wexford-Missaukee and Manistee ISDs. Free and tuition-based preschool program contact information is listed below by school district and county.

Head Start & Great Start Readiness Program

Head Start (federally funded) and GSRP (state-funded) are programs that provide high quality, free preschool education for children in families that meet state or federal guidelines for income and/or risk factors.

Residents of Wexford & Missaukee Counties
Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA) coordinates preschool enrollment for Wexford & Missaukee County Head Start and GSRP programs. Residents of the following school districts should call 1.800.443.2297 for more information:

  • Cadillac Area Public Schools

  • Lake City Area Schools

  • Manton Consolidated Schools

  • McBain Rural Agricultural School

  • Mesick Consolidated Schools

Residents of Osceola County
Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency (NEMCSA) coordinates preschool enrollment for Osceola County Head Start and GSRP programs. Residents of these school districts should call their respective phone numbers for more information:

Residents of Manistee County

Five CAP and Manistee ISD jointly coordinate preschool enrollment for Manistee County. Call local preschools for more information and applications.

Tuition-Based Preschool Classrooms and Child Care Programs

Tuition-based preschools and child care programs provide a school readiness experience for children prior to kindergarten eligibility and provide quality child care for working families.
