ACT (Adult Career Training)

ACT is a FREE, 16 or 18-week adult education and training program developed to meet the need for skilled workers in today’s work-place environment.  Northwest Michigan ACT offers a direct path to job skills, a high school diploma or GED, and an entry level position within the local health care, public safety or welding industries.  Students will not only receive hands-on training on the most current high-tech equipment, but will also develop employability skills like communication, professionalism, and dependability.  Those who successfully complete the program will meet face-to-face with employers who are eager to hire!

A collaboration between local employers, Adult Education programs, the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center and Northwest Michigan Works!

Who Is Eligible?

Adult Education students who want to earn the GED or HS Diploma and learn job skills.

What Programs Are Being Offered?

Health Care Pathway (18 Weeks)

  • Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Safe Work Habits and Attitude

  • HIPPA Certification

  • Teamwork / Social Skills / Work Ethic

Metal Fabrication/Welding (2 days a week for 16 Weeks)

  • MIG (Metal Arc Welding)

  • TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)

  • Stick (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)

  • Flux Cored (Flux Cored Arc Welding)

  • Students will take a bend test to earn a MIG certification

Public Safety (2 days a week for 18 Weeks)

This course teaches the knowledge and skills needed to work as a firefighter in hazardous conditions, including how to respond to hazardous materials emergencies.

Upon successful completion of the course, students may earn Firefighter 1 with Hazmat endorsement.  This is a state-approved credential.
