Great Start Readiness Program

Great Start Readiness Program – GSRP & PreK for All

What is GSRP? GSRP is Great Start Readiness Program and is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program. The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) and the grant oversight is provided by local Intermediate School District (ISD) or Regional Education Service Agency (RESA).

What is Pre K for All? PreK for All, is a bold goal to provide every four-year-old in Michigan with access to free PreKindergarten (PreK) through GSRP. Michigan’s PreK for All program is one of the top-ranked programs in the nation, and children who turn 4 by Dec. 1 qualify to attend at no cost, regardless of family income.

How do I enroll?  Families can fill out the preschool interest form for FREE preschool in our ISD service area (Wexford-Missaukee & Northern Osceola Counties) To find out more about preschool, tuition childcare and other local resources for families - go to Help Me Grow Wexford Missaukee.

Why should you consider a high-quality preschool for your child?     Research on preschool programs and specific research on GSRP indicates that children provided with a high-quality preschool experience show significant positive developmental differences when compared to children from the same backgrounds who did not attend a high-quality preschool program. High-quality GSRP programs prepare children to be successful in Kindergarten and throughout life.

Where are our programs located?   Click WMISD GSRP Programs for a list of programs offering GSRP and their quality rating.

How do I know if there are openings in the GSRP preschool I want my child to attend? A live data dashboard of the GSRP preschool partnerships is linked via the Transparency Reporting logo. Click on the logo in the upper right hand corner of the page and then scroll down to Great Start Readiness Program Dashboard.

Who is eligible to attend GSRP?  GSRP can only serve children who are 4 years old or will be 4 year old by December 1st, however, all families may qualify regardless of income as part of Pre K for All. Factors such as age, FPL%, and other factors may support placement priority.

Placement in GSRP is prioritized on these factors: (1) Homelessness, 2. Foster care placement, (3) Individualized Education Program.(IEP) (indicating placement with a regular education setting)
