Launch
Welcome to the Launch program at the WMCTC:
The Launch program provides 11-12th grade students with an opportunity to learn a variety of career-ready skills in a hands-on environment. While in the classroom, students will learn the necessary employability skills to get and keep a job, explore career interests, create resumes, practice interview skills, and learn the essential skills of leadership, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, work ethic, flexibility/adaptability, and interpersonal skills. A Personal Finance course will be taught by CTC staff members every other year, alternating with a Technical Math course during the opposite year. Students will spend 2-3 days a week in the community participating in work-based learning experiences with local employers using the support of a job coach.
Program Success Indicators:
Students who practice good attendance, a healthy work ethic, teamwork and collaboration skills and an openness to problem solving will be best suited for success at the WMISD CTC. The CTC strongly recommends that incoming juniors have a minimum of 8 earned credits from their local school.
Successful Launch students should:
Be willing and able to follow directions from supervisors
Have a willingness and ability to work as part of a team
Be able to work in a trustworthy manner without direct adult supervision
Be willing to step out of their comfort zone and try new things
Be intrinsically motivated
Adhere to established safety procedures
Have an ability to consistently demonstrate appropriate behavior in the community
Have an interest in gaining employment within the community
