Welcome to the Public Safety program at the WMCTC:

Students in the Public Safety program will receive a broad-based overview of careers in the public safety field.  Students will learn about law enforcement, corrections, emergency dispatch, and court systems. During this two-year program, students will become certified in CPR and Basic First Aid as well as participate in mock accidents, real-world scenarios, physical fitness activities, and field trips.

Program Success Indicators:

Students who practice good attendance, a healthy work ethic, teamwork and collaboration skills and an openness to problem solving will be best suited for success at the WMISD CTC. The CTC strongly recommends that incoming juniors have a minimum of 8 earned credits from their local school.

Successful Public Safety students should:

• Possess excellent listening skills while learning through active participation in classroom presentations

• Have strong oral, written, and public speaking communication

• Demonstrate good planning, organizing, and multi-tasking skills

• Possess age and industry maturity, hygiene, and uniform standards

• Be able to function under high-stress situations with a positive attitude

• Display strong morals, and ethics, and be a positive role model both inside and outside of the classroom

The Public Safety Field:

Students interested in the Public Safety program may continue their training after high school for careers in law enforcement, fire, corrections, and EMT.  The CTC Public Safety program is also part of the Wexford-Missaukee Early College program, which offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree Criminal Justice upon completing a 13th year of high school.  Please see the Wexford-Missaukee Early College link for more information.

Early College Opportunity:

This program offers your student the opportunity to enroll in the Wexford-Missaukee Early College (WMEC).  The WMEC is a public, tuition-free, 3-year program serving students who attend public school districts within the Wexford-Missaukee ISD or partner high schools.  Students participate in an integrated sequence of high school and college courses during grades 11-13 while attending the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center.  There is no out of pocket cost to students and their families for tuition, books, and fees during the 3-year program.  Students can earn up to an Associate’s Degree or Certificate in the outline pathways.  Please see the Early College website for more information.
