Teacher Consultants

Who We Are

The Wexford-Missaukee ISD employs 11 Teacher Consultants who service our seven local school districts. Each Teacher Consultant has a minimum of three years of teaching experience, two of which are within the special education setting. All Teacher Consultants hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited university. Teacher Consultants hold endorsements in one or more of the following specialized areas: Cognitive Impairment, Emotional Impairment, Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Visual Impairment, or Hearing Impairment.

What We Do

All Teacher Consultants within the WMISD provide support to local school districts servicing students who are at-risk as well as students identified as having a disability. Teacher Consultants provide guidance to ensure local school districts are in compliance with state and federal special education rules and regulations. Teacher Consultants are members of school-based problem solving teams, evaluation teams and Individualized Education Planning (IEP) teams. Within the areas of Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment and Preschool, direct services are provided to students in addition to consultative services to teachers and parents.

How We Do It

Teacher Consultants assist local school districts with the implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI) initiatives by providing technical support with the administration of screening assessments and development of intervention plans for at-risk learners. In collaboration with local general education and special education school personnel, Teacher Consultants analyze district, school, classroom and individual student data to ensure adequate progress for all students. When appropriate, Teacher Consultants are members of diagnostic teams that assess students for the presence of a disability.
